Teamsters Local 25, Boston, MA., brings out their "big truck" and hundreds of other Locals to rally on March 29th, 2012 |
|
On February 8th, 2012, 334 workers in the Boston area of over 40 garages won an organizing victory to join Teamster Local 25. Central Parking Systems, Inc. who employs the workers, challenged the eligibility of the ballots and in turn held up the certification process. Local 25 viewed this challenge as a tactic to stall and inevitably deter any organizing efforts.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) subsequent to review of the challenge upheld its initial decision allowing the workers to join Local 25. This decision was a major victory in finally including an overlooked work force in the greater Boston area.
In a full show of support, hundreds of members from other locals joined Local 25 on a March 29th rally in front of the Ritz Carlton to highlight the issues facing the workers.
Part of those supporting teamsters were members from the Local 272 board. In attendance were Matthew Bruccoleri, Fred Alston and Jose Rojas. In a show of support and solidarity, they marched along side hundreds of other teamsters in front of the Ritz Carlton.
